Why I’m Doing a Keto/Low Carb Diet Despite The Fact That It’s a Fad Diet

A fad diet is one that promotes quick weight loss through a stylish plan that results in dramatic results. They are generally unhealthy and rely on pseudoscience rather than actual science to prove its claims.

So is Keto a fad diet? Possibly. It does promote quick weight loss and dramatic results. Is it unhealthy? Depends on who you ask. There are some experts who would say science proves Keto works and is healthy and some who would say the opposite.

So why am I doing a version of Keto? (What I call lazy Keto).

The bottom line of every diet with the intent of weight loss is calories in, calories out. That means you need to consume less calories than you expend. That’s it. So how you get those calories is up to you. You can get them from pizza (some would say very unhealthy way to do it) or you can get it from chicken and vegetables (some would say an unhealthy way to do it).

I believe in trying everything and seeing what works best for your body. I have tried just about every diet – Atkins when it was popular (yea, Keto isn’t new), If It Fits Your Macros, Anabolic, Intermittent Fasting, and even HCG (yes, the one where you only eat 500 calories a day).

So, the reason I am now doing Keto is 1. To try it and 2. It’s currently working for me. Whatever helps you reduce your calories in is what you should do. Let me be clear as long as you are not overly restrictive (*cough* HCG *cough*). Don’t starve yourself.

PLUS because Keto is so popular right now, there are Keto options for just about everything making the diet much easier.

Will I be on Keto forever or even in another 6 months? Probably not. But, I’ve done it and lost weight and gone off the diet and maintained before. Believe it or not, it is possible.

So Keto haters and Keto lovers alike, please stop the arguing. What works for you may not work for someone else. And most importantly, Keto police, please stop telling me the sugar in my Atkins bars aren’t Keto. I don’t care. This works for me. Do what works for you and leave everyone else alone.
